Hypnotherapy to overcome Insomnia

Hypnotherapy to overcome Insomnia

Having a sleepless night can be tough, however night after sleepless night is debilitating. According to the research firm Rand Europe in 2016, insomnia costs the UK economy £40 billion in under-productive or absent staff. Furthermore, habitually getting less than 6 hours can result in earlier death than those sleeping 8 hours! Being tired and exhausted in the day can mean creating bad habits, muddled thinking and poor decision making. Insomnia can come hand in hand with anxiety or occur following a traumatic experience. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy helps enormously, by gently dealing with any underlying problems or anxieties (without the need to dig around in the past).

The Causes of Insomnia

During the dreaming stage of your sleep cycle (REM), your brain processes and deals with the problems and worries of your day. With good mental health, and enough sleep, you will wake up refreshed for the next day. However, during times of greater anxiety, your brain interprets the stress as a mortal danger in your environment. This would have made sense a thousand years ago, in the environment your brain is designed for. Your brain may therefore decide it is safer for you to stay awake. If you do sleep with a “full stress bucket”, your worries will be worked upon by your brain. This processing can further disturb your sleep. We know this is happening when we are woken around 2 to 4am quite miserable, and find it hard to get back to sleep.

Hypnotherapy helps enormously to break the cycle

When this happens we may fail to process all our worries, and wake up tired and foggy. This ends up in a vicious cycle of sleep deprivation and underlying stress. Hypnotherapy helps break this unwanted pattern, and gets you back to a restful and recuperative sleep pattern.
